– What is nutritional yeast?

Yeasts are single-celled microorganisms. Nutritional yeasts include baker’s yeast or brewer’s yeast. While each of are variants of the same species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, each has a different use. Baker’s yeast (also called primary grown yeast) is an active dried yeast that is used for helping baked goods rise. Brewer’s yeast is a yeast used during the brewing system. Nutritional yeast is an inactive dried yeast that is consumed for its nutritional content.
